Can T-Bone Burnett do what he did for O Brother Where Art Thou? for the TV show Crossing Jordan? The producer/new record mogul transformed O Brother from an alright movie into a cultural phenomenon through the bluegrass soundtrack he put together. For the Crossing Jordan soundtrack, Burnett’s using a gimmick that’s bound to attract music fans who’ve never even tuned into the NBC program.
Knowing that few music lovers can resist the lure of a good cover, Burnett has recruited a handful of critically renowned roots artists and asked them to cover classic songs. He managed to garner the support of alt.country queen Lucinda Williams (who covers Tom Waits’ "Hang Down Your Head"), Vic Chesnutt (Bob Dylan’s "Buckets Of Rain"), O Brother contributor Alison Krauss (Blind Faith’s "Can’t Find My Way Home"), Richard Thompson (Donovan’s "Season Of The Witch") and many others. Jill Hennessy, the star of the TV show, sings two of the album’s songs: Tom Waits’ "You’re Innocent When You Dream" and Bob Dylan’s "It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue."
