Meiner Meinung nach eines der schönsten Alben von den Cowboy Junkies überhaupt. Wunderbar ruhige Musik. Die Coverversion von "Sweet Jane" ist IMHO sogar besser als das Original von Lou Reed.

Recorded in a one-night session at a Toronto church using only a DAT recorder, Trinity Sessions turned into the Junkies' American breakthrough thanks to the fluke success of "Sweet Jane," a cover of the Velvet Underground classic. Lou Reed himself praised it due to its inclusion of the lost verse about "heavenly wine and roses," and the four-piece do it all proud, with Margo Timmins' lovely, haunted vocal and the band's quietly narcotic performance in perfect sync. As a whole, Trinity Sessions captures that entire mood throughout, building on the sound established on Whites Off Earth Now! to create a perfect balance between older inspirations and a newer, hushed dramatic edge. The album is split evenly between covers and new cuts, with the former showing the group's many gifts at creating its own interpretations and the latter its abilities to come up with equally fine cuts. Among the originals, "Misguided Angel" is perhaps the best, a lengthy, sweetly beautiful piece that showcases the abilities of guest performers Jaro Czerwinec on accordion and Jeff Bird on mandolin and harmonica. The core quartet just nails the main performance to a T, and the end result is wondrous. As for the covers, while some of the choices are well known — Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" — the Junkies effectively turn each take into their own.
